Promenade Bar, The Rainbow Room
Experience: 22 years
Signature drink?
There's a nice summer drink that I came up with called a South Beach -- freshly squeezed orange juice, Campari, amaretto (shake and garnish with orange peel).
Most popular drink?
We have several signature drinks and revival cocktails that are very popular, but in general, if you're talking about all bars, I would have to say the Cosmopolitan.
Most unusual request?
Martini with an anchovy-stuffed olive
Best thing about being a bartender?
It's a fun business, and I feel very comfortable in the bar and grill atmosphere.
Worst thing about being a bartender?
Long hours and time away from the family
Favorite drink?
Sazarac Cocktail, a difficult to find cocktail made primarily in New Orleans -- a few drops of Pernod to coat the inside of the glass, brandy, bourbon, Peychaud's bitters, dash of sugar, squeeze of lemon (chilled).
Favorite bar story?
A man came into the bar to enjoy a quiet drink, but as I finished making his drink I fell down behind the bar -- I was having an appendicitis attack. The man leaned over the bar and said, "Are you all right?" I immediately replied, "No!" and the poor
man's relaxing drink turned into a trip to the hospital with me.
